Ordered Toy Story 2 along with this DVD. These are classics that every Disney animated movie lover must have. Slowly replacing all my Disney VHS movies and these 2 DVDs came at a great price. In this 3D computer animated feature, a pull-string cowboy doll is the leader of the toys until the latest, greatest action figure enters the picture. When the toy rivals are separated from thei rowner, they ultimately learn to put aside their differences and work as a team to get back home to the boy they love.

Showed up promptly, no scratches on disc. In fact, the disc and box looked brand new. Unfortunately it's one of those dvds with no menu or special features or anything, just the movie, but that's a problem with Disney/Pixar, not the seller :) Great find, great price.

Up (Single Disc Widescreen) Feature

  • Example Bullet Point 1
  • Example Bullet Point 2
At a time when too many animated films consist of anthropomorphized animals cracking sitcom one-liners and flatulence jokes, the warmth, originality, humor, and unflagging imagination of Up feel as welcome as rain in a desert. Carl Fredericksen (voice by Ed Asner) ranks among the most unlikely heroes in recent animation history. A 78- year-old curmudgeon, he enjoyed his modest life as a balloon seller because he shared it with his adventurous wife Ellie (Ellie Docter). But she died, leaving him with memories and the awareness that they never made their dream journey to Paradise Falls in South America. When well-meaning officials consign Carl to Shady Oaks Retirement Home, he rigs thousands of helium balloons to his house and floats to South America. The journey's scarcely begun when he discovers a stowaway: Russell (Jordan Nagai), a chubby, maladroit Wilderness Explorer Scout who's out to earn his Elderly Assistance Badge. In the tropical jungle, Carl and Russell find more than they bargained for: Charles Muntz (Christopher Plummer), a crazed explorer whose newsreels once inspired Carl and Ellie; Kevin, an exotic bird with a weakness for chocolate; and Dug (Bob Peterson), an endearingly dim golden retriever fitted with a voice box. More importantly, the travelers discover they need each other: Russell needs a (grand)father figure; Carl needs someone to enliven his life without Ellie. Together, they learn that sharing ice-cream cones and counting the passing cars can be more meaningful than feats of daring-do and distant horizons. Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc. ) and Bob Peterson direct the film with consummate skill and taste, allowing the poignant moments to unfold without dialogue to Michael Giacchnio's vibrant score. Building on their work in The Incredibles and Ratatouille, the Pixar crew offers nuanced animation of the stylized characters. Even by Pixar's elevated standards, Up is an exceptional film that will appeal of audiences of all ages. Rated PG for some peril and action. --Charles Solomon

Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios take moviegoers up, up and away on one of the funniest adventures of all time with their latest comedy-fantasy. Up follows the uplifting tale of 78-year-old balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen, who finally fulfills his lifelong dream of a great adventure when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America. But he discovers all too late that his biggest nightmare has stowed away on the trip an overly optimistic 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell. Their journey to a lost world, where they encounter some strange, exotic and surprising characters, is filled with hilarity, emotion and wildly imaginative adventure.

Shrek (Full Screen Single Disc Edition)

Shrek (Full Screen Single Disc Edition) Review

See more picture

"Shrek" has made a name for itself in American pop culture as well as obtaining a place in cinematic history as being the first film to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Movie. Few of us will ever forget the original characters voiced by the likes of Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Mike Myers, and John Lithgow. Shrek is a giant orgre who attempts to resue his Princess from evil clutches, while at the same time trying to regain his rights to his swamp from the Lord Farquaad.
The plot was written mainly for children, but adults will love it as there are many adult-orriented jokes throughout the picture.
The movie went on to be one of the most successful animated movies of all-time grossing over 0,000,000 on a ,000,000 budget while spawning several sequels over the years.
The DVD is filled to the brim with extras including an alternate ending, behind-the-scenes featurette, commentary, and much more.
"Newsweek" calls "Shrek "smart and hilarious". Three unlikely heroes save their land from tyranny.

Shrek rocks! - Michelle Morrison - USA
To me, a great movie is one that you can watch over and over again and not get tired of it. Shrek is one of those movies. This is a film that has a freshness that lasts no matter how many times you watch it. It is absolutely hilarious and the parts are cast perfectly. Mike Myers' Shrek and Eddie Murphy's Donkey are a big reason the movie is so funny, and Cameron Diaz does a marvelous job as Princess Fiona. The "fractured fairy tale" point of view is a riot too. They managed to include just about every fairy tale character from every story in the plot and still make it funny. Grimm was never like this.

My favorite parts are when Shrek first meets Donkey and when Princess Fiona beats the crud out of the robbers in the woods, and the underlying themes are sweet: Shrek is an ugly ogre on the outside but has a heart of gold on the inside, and friends stick together and help each other out.

Finding Nemo [VHS]

Finding Nemo [VHS] Review

For all my reviews visit my website

I am NOT reviewing the DVD. Just the movies unless otherwise stated.

Please note that the rating above might not accurately reflect my thoughts, you will see a rating sentence at the end of the review.

it is definatly something fun to watch. It ain't the best Pixar film ever made, but it is one of the best. The biggest thing about the story is it seems to reflect Bambi, in Bambi, we saw how the evil of man is destroying our wildlife. While, in here, we see man destroying our undersea life. We see the epic struggles that good soles will go to rescue people they love.

Finding Nemo puts the usual "Hero Story" into a mix, it plays around with the usual story, but, I'm not gonna explain it all to you right now cause I'd sound like a professor.

So, Pixar is the weird place between good Disney Movies and bad Disney Movies, it still has that corny feeling and stereotyped characters, but it really gets to your heart and has a lot of meaning. I think I've also figured out a few mysteries behind this movie.

A. How did Dorry get her short-term memory loss? You say it runs in the family? Remember her questioning that? I think it came from the BANG when Marlin first meets up with Dorry. B. Some of the fish in the tanks are relatives to fish in the sea. For instance, the yellow BUBBLES fish, I personally think might be related to Dorry. Proving that her family is not short-term memory loss, just blond (no, just kidding...however the actor who played Dorry was blond.)C. Where did Nemo get his name? Anemone, A Nemo Ne. A Nemo Knee, Nemo has a bad fin, Knee is part of a human limb, see the connection?

This actually has a great side-story, I know most of the time a side-story isn't great, because it's usually a side-story, here, it's two stories in one. You can do a report on Marlin's adventures and Nemo's adventures with the same movie

I am an animal freak, so I really did like the huge abundance of lots of species in the movie. The humor is pretty good, not professional, just pretty good, worth a few laughs. Except, holly crap, the whale talk from Dorry, flipping hilarious!!!!

This movie also never seems to stop. There is a ton happening in this movie, and it is never slow (likely because of the amount of fish in the sea.) There is always multiple scenarios, and it just goes to show how hard a good father will go to rescue his offspring, especially after such an incident from at the begging. (BTW does the wife of Marlin sound familiar to you, similar actor I dunno.)

One great thing about kids movies these days (I can't believe I just said that,) is that there all original. This, is no exception. (Well, Where the Wild Things Are and Christmas Carol are remakes, but you get the jist.) I could go on about the symbolism, personification, metaphor and inner meaning about this movie, but I can't. Lemme just tell you, the whale is from Pinocchio, there is no denying that.

The Rating? This isn't a 4.5/5 star movie, but, I think it deserves it for everything it gives us. Now, don't get me wrong, the classic Disney is still the best, but, this was really good.

I, Da Ca$hman signing off. A delightful undersea world unfolds in Pixar's animated adventure Finding Nemo. When his son Nemo is captured by a scuba-diver, a nervous-nellie clownfish named Marlin (voiced by Albert Brooks) sets off into the vast--and astonishingly detailed--ocean to find him. Along the way he hooks up with a scatterbrained blue tang fish named Dory (Ellen DeGeneres), who's both helpful and a hindrance, sometimes at the same time. Faced with sharks, deep-sea anglers, fields of poisonous jellyfish, sea turtles, pelicans, and much more, Marlin rises above his neuroses in this wonderfully funny and nonstop thrill ride--rarely does more than 10 minutes pass without a sequence destined to become a theme park attraction. Pixar continues its run of impeccable artistic and economic success (their movies include Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, and Monsters, Inc). Also featuring the voices of Willem Dafoe, Geoffrey Rush, and Allison Janney. --Bret Fetzer

Cars (Widescreen Edition)

Cars (Widescreen Edition) Review

There is no doubt that Pixar is fabulous with making movies for kids and adults, with also great messages and animation. First off the movie storyline is cute and adventurous. Alive cars, is a fun idea and keeps me interested. The animation is unbelievable (its even a 5 year old movie), and with it in Blu-Ray! Cars is a great movie and has great messages to give back and be grateful. Many kids will love this movie and it will always be my favorite. Cars is one of those movies that will never get boring for me and will be playing on my TV most of the time. From the acclaimed creators of TOY STORY, THE INCREDIBLES, and FINDING NEMO comes a high-octane adventure comedy that shows life is about the journey, not the finish line. Hotshot rookie race car Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) is living life in the fast lane until he hits a detour on his way to the most important race of his life. Stranded in Radiator Springs, a forgotten town on the old Route 66, he meets Sally, Mater, Doc Hudson (Paul Newman), and a variety of quirky characters who help him discover that there's more to life than trophies and fame. Revved up with a sensational soundtrack, featuring Rascal Flatts, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, James Taylor, and others, plus exciting bonus features, including the exclusive short movie "Mater And The Ghostlight," CARS is full of freewheeling fun for everyone.

Disney Pixar Ultimate Movie Collection (Toy Story / Toy Story 2 / Finding Nemo / The Incredibles / A Bug's Life / Monsters, Inc. / Cars / Ratatouille)

Disney Pixar Ultimate Movie Collection (Toy Story / Toy Story 2 / Finding Nemo / The Incredibles / A Bug's Life / Monsters, Inc. / Cars / Ratatouille) Review

Since I have (or will) review each of these movies separately, I thought the best way to review this box set is by ranking the films by the number of times my children have watched the films (2 boys, now aged 2 and 4.5, I've had the set for one year). I've also given a rating out of 5 stars based on my own opinion.

1. Cars (4 stars) - BY FAR the most popular with my boys. Hotshot racecar Lightning McQueen gets lost while being transported across country, and ends up in desert-rural Radiator Springs where life is considerably slower than he's used to. The opening race scene is amazingly good. At 2 hours, perhaps a little long for one sitting.

2. Toy Story 2 (5 stars) - Woody the Cowboy is kidnapped by a collector who intends to sell him to a toy museum in Japan, and it's up to Buzz and others to rescue him. Features a memorable visit to a Toys R Us-like store complete with a Barbie tour guide and a complete wall-full of Buzz Lightyears.

3. Ratatouille (4 stars) - a surprisingly engaging story about a rat who can cook. He helps a young sous-chef make something of himself. The "climax" with the food critic (and the eponymous dish of food) are surprisingly moving. Oddly, the quality of the computer animation makes the rats creepier than, say, the mice/rats in Disney's Great Mouse Detective or The Rescuers.

4. The Incredibles (5 stars) - Forced into retirement amid lawsuits and public relation disasters, Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl are try to raise kids (also with super powers) like a normal family. Craving adventure like the old days, Mr. Incredible gets drawn into a sinister plot and it's up to the rest of the family to rescue him. Great fun all the way through.

5. Finding Nemo (3 stars) - visually spectacular story of a father Clown Fish's attempt to find and rescue his son, captured by a diver and put into a dentist's aquarium. Unfortunately, it often feels like a string of action set pieces which makes it less enjoyable for an adult on repeated viewings.

6. Toy Story (5 stars) - the film that started it all: Sheriff Woody is replaced as Andy's favourite toy by upstart (and delusional) Buzz Lightyear. But when they get lost they must work together to find their way back to Andy's house. Great fun and stands up very well on repeated viewings.

All 6 of the above have, at some point, been my elder son's favourite. The final two are rarely (if ever) requested by either of my boys.

7. A Bug's Life (3 stars) - somewhat contrived second effort from Pixar, probably the least re-watchable film in this set. Cars and toys lend themselves especially well to computer animation. These bugs look blocky and generic, and the story is predictable animated adventure fare (and therefore a little dull).

8. Monster's Inc. (? stars) - I have never seen this film all the way through, because my boys simply do not watch it! Perhaps that tells you everything you need to know about the film.

It's too bad this box set is no longer available - it was -ish when I bought it, and I've certainly got my money's worth. All these films (except Bug's Life, and possibly Monster's Inc) are very rewatchable and can be enjoyed over and over, which is good because we all know how kids like to rewatch the same things over and over..... 6 of the 8 films are the 2-disc special editions (Cars and Ratatouille are not), so there's also lots of extras for the adult animation fan to enjoy after the kids have gone to bed. Disney-Pixar Ultimate Movie Collection includes eight of Pixar's full length films on DVD:

Toy Story (10th Anniversary Edition)
Experience a hilarious fantasy about the lives toys lead when they're left alone. Woody (Tom Hanks), an old-fashioned cowboy doll, is Andy's favorite. But when Andy gets Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) for his birthday, the flashy new space hero takes Andy's room by storm! Their rivalry leaves them lost with a toy's worst nightmare -- Sid, the toy-torturing boy next door. Woody and Buzz must work together to escape, realizing along the way that they've got a friend ... in each other! Now, in a magnificent special edition, Toy Story shines even brighter. With an all-new enhanced picture and a spectacular home theater mix as well as exclusive bonus features, including deleted scenes and a retrospective special with director John Lasseter, this modern classic is one you'll enjoy to infinity and beyond.

A Bug's Life (Collector's Edition)
Journey inside the world of bugs in this epic of miniature proportions. Crawling with imaginative characters, hilarious laughs, and colorful animation, Walt Disney Pictures Presentation of A Pixar Animation Studios Film, A Bug's Life, will "delight everyone -- young, old, or six-legged." (People Magazine) In this 2-disc set you'll step behind the scenes for a look at the innovation and teamwork that resulted in this ingenious film. Loaded with bonus features — including animation not seen in theaters, abandoned sequences, and multiple surprises — A Bug's Life Collector's Edition offers something for everyone from families to film lovers!

Toy Story 2
A Golden Globe Award winner for Best Picture, Toy Story 2 has become a favorite all across the world, garnering praise from fans and critics everywhere. It's "an instant classic," raves New York Magazine. Now, in a 2-disc collector's edition with a sparkling theater mix, this groundbreaking animated adventure is even better! While Andy is away at summer camp, Woody is toynapped by Al, a greedy collector who needs Andy's favorite toy to complete his Roundup Gang collection. Together with Jessie, Bullseye, and the Prospector, Woody is on his way to a museum where he'll spend the rest of his life behind glass. It's up to Buzz, Mr. Potato Head, Hamm, Rex, and Slinky Dog to rescue their friend and remind him what being a toy is all about. Bursting with exclusive bonus features, including deleted scenes, outtakes, a new game, and much more, this hilarious comedy classic raises the bar on family entertainment to infinity and beyond.

Monsters, Inc.
From the Academy Award(R)-winning creators of Toy Story comes the computer-animated film that captured the hearts of fans and critics everywhere. Monsters, Inc., is "visually dazzling, action-packed, and hilarious" (Boston Herald), featuring groundbreaking animation, imaginative storytelling, and unforgettable voice talent. John Goodman stars as the lovable James P. Sullivan (Sulley) and Billy Crystal as his wisecracking best friend, Mike Wazowski. Top scarer Sulley and his enthusiastic Scare Assistant Mike work at Monsters, Inc., the largest scream-processing factory in Monstropolis. The main power source of the monster world is the collected screams of human children. Monsters believe children are dangerous and toxic, however, and they are scared silly when a little girl wanders into their world. Sulley and Mike do their best to return the girl home, but they face monstrous intrigue and some hilarious misadventures along the way. Monsters, Inc., is "supremely clever -- fun for kids and adults alike" (CBS-TV). Treat yourself to the most entertaining movie of the year with all-new exclusive bonus features and animation for monster laughs and monster fun.

Finding Nemo
FromThe New Yorker
The latest flood of wizardry from Pixar, whose productions, from Toy Story onward, have lent an indispensable vigor and wit to the sagging art of mainstream animation. Whether the new movie, directed by Andrew Stanton, will add much to that resuscitation is another matter. Albert Brooks provides the voice of Marlin, a non-amusing clown fish who sees his young son, Nemo, borne off in a diver's net. Not to be daunted, and plainly unfazed by the threat of both sharks and sentimentality, Marlin sets off to rescue his only child. You'll never guess how it ends. The technical skill on show is beyond question, but, as yet another computer-generated seascape ripples past, you may be tempted to ask whether that skill is driving the story; Marlin just drifts from one semi-heroic feat to the next, and the characters seldom get their hooks, or their jaws, into you with the pointed, snippy comedy that we have come to associate with Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Also, not to be impolite or anything, but how expressive is a fish, until it hits a grill? With the voices of Geoffrey Rush, Barry Humphries, Willem Dafoe, Allison Janney, and-the funniest of the shoal-Ellen DeGeneres. -Anthony Lane Copyright © 2006 The New Yorker

The Incredibles
After creating the last great traditionally animated film of the 20th century, The Iron Giant, filmmaker Brad Bird joined top-drawer studio Pixar to create this exciting, completely entertaining computer-animated film. Bird gives us a family of "supers," a brood of five with special powers desperately trying to fit in with the 9-to-5 suburban lifestyle. Of course, in a more innocent world, Bob and Helen Parr were superheroes, Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl. But blasted lawsuits and public disapproval forced them and other supers to go incognito, making it even tougher for their school-age kids, the shy Violet and the aptly named Dash. When a stranger named Mirage (voiced by Elizabeth Pena) secretly recruits Bob for a potential mission, the old glory days spin in his head, even if his body is a bit too plump for his old super suit.

Nominated for four Oscars, The Incredibles won for Best Animated Film and, in an unprecedented win for non-live-action films, Sound Editing.

Cars

Ratatouille
From the creators of Cars and The Incredibles comes a break-through comedy with something for everyone. With delightful new characters, experience Paris from an all-new perspective. It's "terrific movie making" raves Leonard Maltin of Entertainment Tonight. In one of Paris' finest restaurants, Remy, a determined young rat, dreams of becoming a renowned French chef. Torn between his family's wishes and his true calling, Remy and his pal Linguini set in motion a hilarious chain of events that turns the City of Lights upside down. Ratatouille is a treat you'll want to enjoy again and again.

Kung Fu Panda (Mandarin Chinese Edition)

Kung Fu Panda (Mandarin Chinese Edition) Review

See more picture

Alright guys, it's official- animation delivers the laughs better than *any* other style of comedy. This includes stand up routines, sitcoms with live studio audiences, or just your uncle Bob telling you a joke during a family visit. Kung Fu Panda absolutely rules, and the animation is one of the main reasons why.

I've actually wanted to watch Kung Fu Panda for quite a while now. I finally got the chance to watch it this afternoon. It certainly lived up to all the hype it received a couple years ago.

What makes it so enjoyable is the fact that the laughs aren't the only exciting thing about Kung Fu Panda- it's the outrageous and zanny action segments that really elevate this film to a level of untouchable greatness. We're talking a LOT of animated action here, folks.

The storyline is about a panda bear that's severely out of shape but dreams about becoming the ultimate master of kung fu fighting.

Eventually he's chosen to be given such a chance, with lots of special attention and guidance from his master (along with other friends). Unfortunately his laziness constantly prevents him from ever reaching his dream... until a really evil wild cat comes into the equation and pretty much forces the panda bear to stand up and fight.

I don't know what's most awesome about Kung Fu Panda- the exciting action and fighting segments, the actual humor and jokes involving all the animated animals communicating with each other, or just the brilliantly executed animation frames themselves.

One thing's for sure- you simply MUST watch this movie. Adults and children alike must watch it. You'll be laughing hard and heavy, I guarantee it!
